Your IQ doesn't matter. 👀

Your EQ does. 🧠

I attended a super insightful workshop last night run by Equanima, an emotional intelligence platform.

I got to listen to Morgane Borzée, Co-founder of Equanima, Natalie Howley, an Emotional Intelligence coach, as well as the amazing host Sia Sevtsenko 💜 open a discussion about burnout and how to become more self-aware of our inner dialogue.

📌 The biggest takeaways:

- Unpleasant emotions are activated in response to a need - do you need validation? More support - emotional or practical?

- Burnout doesn't look the same for everyone.

It's not always a feeling of overwhelm.

It can be a sense of detachment from things you once enjoyed.

- Every response we have - fight, flight, freeze, and submit - is a protector.

📌 The preventative measures and tips:

✨ Set Boundaries with yourself and create a routine where you can switch off

✨ Make a "dopamine menu" to destress

✨ Practice box breathing to self-regulate

✨ Remove "shouldn't" from your vocabulary - it's a loaded word.

✨ Detach your identity from work. You're worth so much more.

It's hard to talk about burnout because of its stigmatization.

If you're self-employed, you know how hard it can be to find a balance between working and closing the laptop at a reasonable time.

Your mental health matters in every single situation.

Fantastic workshop Equanima!

What does it mean to truly know our emotions? At the Equanima EQ Meetup in Barcelona last week, I found myself confronting this question with a renewed sense of curiosity.

In a world that often rushes past subtlety, we limit our emotional vocabulary to blunt tools: “happy,” “angry,” “sad.” But language shapes reality. To name something is to give it dimension, depth, and a place to exist. This event was a reminder that expanding how we talk about emotions is more than a linguistic exercise, it’s a way to reclaim parts of ourselves that often go unnoticed.

One moment I appreciated was the discussion about how physical sensations, like “a lump in the throat” or “butterflies in the stomach”, tie to emotional awareness. It connected to something I’d been reflecting on lately: the body’s role in storing experiences, memories, and even trauma.

Equanima’s work in creating a dictionary of emotions feels like a profound act of insight and care. It invites us to embrace complexity, and to see the richness in what we feel. In a polarized world, where complexity is often oversimplified into extremes, this feels not just relevant but urgent.

I left this event inspired to see projects that bring such meaningful conversations to life.
